MentorAbility -

Employers

Diverse Workforces are Strong Workforces

Creating an inclusive workforce is easier than you think!

What is MentorAbility

The MentorAbility Canada Project is a national initiative by the Canadian Association for Supported Employment (CASE).  This initiative helps:

  • site partners (employment agencies)

  • protégés (people with disabilities) and

  • employers

to get results in workplace inclusion by promoting the employment and full citizenship of Canadian's with disabilities.

MentorAbility offers employers an opportunity to meet with individuals who have a passion and interest for their business.

MentorAbility enlists one or more members of a workplace to mentor a “matched” protégé who wants to learn more about that workplace or career.

The MentorAbility Experience [MA_X] is coordinated by a local employment service provider and can last 1 hour up to 1 day at the employer’s discretion.

What is MentorAbility focused on achieving

MentorAbility is an inclusive approach to workplace integration of people experiencing disability. It is designed to:

  1. Assist employers to become more successful in employing people with disabilities by utilizing mentoring relationships along with creative human resources recruitment and outreach strategies.

  2. Recognize and celebrate mentoring success stories as part of the national effort to promote the employment and full citizenship of Canadians experiencing disabilities.

What are the potential benefits for my business

  • MentorAbility is free and there is no expectation of a job offer.

  • Employers can utilize MentorAbility to improve their inclusive recruitment, training, and engagement practices.

  • Employers and their staff learn more about workplace inclusion.

  • Employers develop strong working relationships with site partners (local employment agencies).

  • Employers can easily tap into a pool of competent potential future employees.

  • Participating employers demonstrate community leadership and a commitment to workplace inclusion.

How does it work?

Connect with your MentorAbility Canada Provincial Hub and complete the mentor sign-up form.

An employment agency staff will contact you to further explore your interest in mentoring.

You can begin to discuss the initiative within your workplace. Successful inclusive employers discuss the MentorAbility Experience with their teams and HR department. They encourage employees and managers to consider becoming a mentor.

You will receive the MentorAbility Toolkit, full of resources designed to guide you through the mentoring experience.

A preliminary meeting with the service provider and the Protégé can be arranged at your place of business before the mentorship activity.

Participating employers agree to:

Provide the Protégé with a memorable MentorAbility Experience [MA_X] and to access the support of the involved employment agency as needed.

Provide feedback to help evaluate and further improve the MentorAbility Canada initiative.
