MentorAbility: Rekindle the spark!

Sébastien got the chance to go to his mentor Thomas’ workplace to talk about the work of a security guard. During the meeting, Sébastien was able to ask all his questions and even share some of his fears about how he might do on the job based on his personality. The discussion gave Sébastien a realistic idea of the work and allowed him to get clarity with respect to his expectations. Being on site also gave him the opportunity to discover other unexpected aspects of the job, which impressed him. Thomas shared his experience with enthusiasm for his job, and Sébastien is now thinking about taking training to work in security. A real success story!

CHAP Alliance’s mission is to help people who experience disabilities to enter the workforce, so they were happy to participate in the MentorAbility initiative. Thomas, Sébastien’s mentor, gained a great deal from this experience and found it to be rewarding. Thomas enjoyed answering Sébastien’s questions and explaining the various aspects of the security guard occupation. Employers are experiencing labour shortages, and participation in MentorAbility is a good way to inform job seekers about one’s company and to ultimately to find motivated job candidates.

We can say without a doubt that the mentorship experience was very successful, and that both participants found their interaction to be helpful.
