Matthew: A Grand Vision. Facilitated by: March of Dimes Canada and ODEN.

Matthew is interested in starting a new business.

When asked about his MentorAbility experience, Matthew said the best advice he received was that he could create sponsorships for children who could not afford sports, which is important for the social enterprise he hopes to create.

When Matthew connected with MentorAbility, he already had the idea to start an organization that would help connect children with sports and athletic development, including children without the financial means to participate. Despite a concrete vision, Matthew was seeking advice on how he could turn his dream into reality.

Matthew was paired with Linda, Director of Rehabilitation Services at Performance Plus Rehabilitative Care Inc. Her previous experience founding a non-profit organization, and overall experience working in both non-profit and private sectors, made her an ideal mentor for Matthew.

Matthew and Linda met virtually, and Matthew received advice on how non-profit and charitable organizations operate. Although Matthew initially intended to start a non-profit organization, based on their discussion and his business model, he learned that a private organization may be more suitable to achieve his goal. Matthew gained valuable insight from this meeting and was asked to keep Linda updated on his progress.

When asked about his MentorAbility experience, Matthew said the best advice he received was that he could create sponsorships for children who could not afford sports, which is important for the social enterprise he hopes to create.

Other key outcomes of their conversation include connecting with a business coach to create a business plan, and to consider taking business courses. Matthew shared this advice would be important for his success.

Good luck with your vision, Matthew. It’s an excellent one!
