Successful Person-Centred Approaches
Inclusions East prioritizes person-centred planning and uses several approaches that have proven successful for clients to find and maintain employment. They recognize that each person’s journey differs. Supports stay in place while staff seek the right fit or work to address hidden barriers, as long as the person is interested in seeking employment.
- They have a long history of working with both the employee and the employer to ensure the required accommodations are provided during the initial phases of employment and are in place for continued support.
- Regular check-ins can offer support before potential issues become concerns.
- Job coaching is provided at the beginning of employment and as the person continues in their job. For instance, if the employer plans to increase duties, additional job coaching can help to introduce new skills that may be required.
- In addition to one-on-one meetings, small group employment sessions are facilitated so that peers can learn and support each other on their employment journey.
- They recognize that, within the employment journey, self-employment offers value for persons with an entrepreneurial spirit and that additional training opportunities may be suggested to boost job readiness.
Looking Forward to Natural Growth
Inclusions East is proud of the supports available to individuals in the community and looks forward to natural growth. Several promotions are planned for the coming year, including an employer breakfast to show appreciation for local businesses.
The organization is considering the expansion of group employment sessions and the reintroduction of an employment transition program for new high school graduates who may not be on a track of post-secondary education.
