Vic said that MentorAbility played a key role in reducing his stress and increasing his optimism by providing the guidance and information he needed to move forward in his career.

Vic* was working with an employment counsellor because he wasn’t sure his current career path was a good fit. The employment counselor believed it would benefit Vic to speak with someone who could help him make an informed decision about whether to continue his education, put it on hold for a year or pursue a different career path entirely.

That’s when Vic was referred to MentorAbility and he was eager to access the program to get some guidance from someone active in the workforce. Vic was matched with Ted, a mentor in the software development field, and Ted* helped Vic develop a career plan.

Ted explained how skills Vic gained from previous jobs could transfer to software development, as well as the likelihood of someone like Vic being hired in the field without the required degree. Ted also taught Vic strategies to enhance his appeal as a job candidate in software development.

Vic said his discussion with Ted went well and he learned valuable insights about software development, such as what to focus on to improve his chances of getting hired in this field. Ted also helped Vic develop a clear career plan which helped him overcome his uncertainty and gain a stronger sense of the direction he should take. Vic gained a lot of confidence, and he is now more focused and dedicated to his career path than ever.

Since this successful MentorAbility Experience, Vic secured a full-time job that allows him to save money and return to school in a few years for an education in software development. Vic said that MentorAbility played a key role in reducing his stress and increasing his optimism by providing the guidance and information he needed to move forward in his career.
