MentorAbility Experience Story: Andrew

Andrew was passionate about city planning and eager to learn more about a career in this field. MentorAbility was able to match Andrew with Donovan, a managing partner at Landmark Planning and Design Inc. in Winnipeg.  

Donovan warmly welcomed Andrew into the world of urban planning by introducing him to the talented team at Landmark Planning. During the visit, Andrew gained valuable insight into the process of city planning, as Donovan guided him through a recent proposal, and explained the multifaceted considerations that city planners must address when designing.   

Andrew was able to see firsthand how different aspects of the profession—from environmental concerns to the way urban form influences daily life —come together to shape cities. In addition, Donovan and his team took the time to answer Andrew’s questions, offering tailored advice on the educational requirements and skill sets necessary for a career in city planning.

Landmark Planning staff provided thoughtful suggestions and feedback, specifically aligned with Andrew’s interests in environmental sustainability, giving him a clearer picture of how he could make a meaningful impact in the field.   

This MentorAbility experience proved to be a perfect match, as both Andrew and Donovan shared a passion for the future of city planning and really hit it off together. It was a truly inspiring session that not only expanded Andrew’s understanding of urban planning but also reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing a career in this exciting field.
