“The meeting went very well and helped Rose explore whether these three types of positions could align with her background and profile.”

After a long-term leave, Rose* needed a gentle first step toward returning to the workforce. Taking part in MentorAbility felt reassuring because she knew she would be connected with inclusive employers who care about their staff.

Having the support of the ROSEPH team was also an important part of her decision to participate. The team took the time to talk with her about different roles and help her prepare. Mentoring offered a reassuring way to ask questions and explore workplaces with very little pressure, without the obligation to apply for a position.

Rose was able to experience mentoring in different formats: one online session lasting one hour, and one in-person experience with three mentors in three different roles. The online format allowed her to stay at home while connecting easily and directly with the person responsible for human resources.

The meeting went very well and helped Rose explore whether these types of positions could align with her background and profile. The HR representative from this large company took Rose’s previous administrative experience into account when considering possible roles within the organization. She also recognized Rose’s new training path in wellness and suggested the possibility of future conference-style activities on workplace well-being, at a time that would be right for Rose.

The in-person experience was warm and welcoming. It gave Rose the opportunity to visit the workplace and learn about three different roles. The three mentors were genuinely engaged and took the time to clearly explain their positions, their tasks, and answer Rose’s questions. The HR representative welcomed them, and the whole team helped create a comfortable and supportive environment.

Rose’s profile caught their attention, and a future in-person meeting is being planned with three HR representatives from different departments. This next conversation will give Rose the opportunity to ask questions about job accommodations and recruitment pathways, helping her prepare for a possible application in the future.

Bravo, Rose! You are on your way. And a big thank you to the employer who provided not just one, but three mentors for this experience.
