Becoming a Job Coach

Your Guide to Supporting Clients to Thrive at their Jobs

“Each person holds so much power within themselves that needs to be let out. Sometimes they just need a little nudge, a little direction, a little support, a little coaching, and the greatest things can happen.”

— Peter Caroll, American Football Coach

The quote above comes from a sports coach. Yet its core message applies to each of us. We all have strengths and we all need support, especially in the workplace. Support that aligns with our needs and goals is a bridge that helps us realize our potential. And the name for one such bridge is job coaching.

What is Job Coaching?

Job coaching is the process of providing one-on-one support to a new employee in their workplace. It is a core part of supported employment services.

Employees who experience disability can face added barriers at work. These barriers may involve inadequate communication and training. Effective job coaching helps navigate these barriers and promotes inclusion in ways that help both the employee and their employer.

But what does effective job coaching even look like? CASE’s newest Certificate Program, Becoming a Job Coach, is here to answer that for you!

This 2-day facilitated program is for professionals who provide on-the-job coaching to employees who experience disability. The program will equip you with evidence-based tools and strategies to:

  • Support employees to learn and adapt to their roles.
  • Perform detailed job analysis and task analysis.
  • Use prompts based on employees’ learning styles (also known as systematic instruction).
  • Encourage collaboration between new employees and their team.
  • Explore accommodations and workplace support.
  • Promote independence and reduce coaching interventions in a strategic way (also known as fading).

8 hours in total

over the course of 2 days

You will be attending two

4-hour webinars each day.

You will emerge from the program ready to support new employees to maintain and thrive at the jobs they worked so hard to get!

You can look forward to facilitator-led presentations, discussions with peers, and practical resources. The webinars will include short breaks.
