Mike said he had a great morning meeting and mentoring Brandon and was happy to show him what a day in the life of a tech organization looks like.

Brandon came to MentorAbility with an interest in technology. A few job seekers have already been mentored by Computers for Schools and, luckily, we were able to match Brandon with their Depot Manager, Mike, in Newfoundland.

Mike said he had a great morning meeting and mentoring Brandon and was happy to show him a day in the life of a tech organization. Brandon was attentive and was excited to be in a place filled with tech. He was in his element with people, like Mike, who love to tinker with equipment and fix it. Mike applauded Brandon’s high level of energy; it was a great change of pace to his typical workday.

Mike wanted to be a mentor for youth in technology, because it’s important to share knowledge with the younger generation. Computers for Schools regularly accepts new interns, and he feels that it’s good to encourage youth interested in tech since they will one day be the ones to steer the industry. He also said he’d be happy to mentor more youth experiencing disability, because every new mentorship helps refine Computers for Schools’ process for hiring and training youth.

For anyone considering becoming a mentor, Mike says it’s a helpful experience that will hone your teaching skills. He suggests that mentors just go into it with an open mind and they will have a good time.

When the mentor has a good time, so does the mentee. Brandon had just as good a time as Mike, and now he has a better idea of what a career in tech could look like.

Thank you for mentoring Brandon, Mike, and we look forward to working with Computers for School again in the future! Good luck with your next steps with your career, Brandon!
