Who Is This Program For?

This program is for professionals who provide career support to job seekers who experience disability. These roles include, but are not limited to career development professionals, supported employment service providers, job developers, job coaches, employment specialists, employment and career counsellors, and so on. The Foundations of Supported Employment program is an evolved iteration of Supported Employment Essentials, an introductory training established in 2019 and guided by CASE and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

The new iteration builds on feedback from over 300 learners to offer more opportunity for connection, collaboration, and practice. It equips practitioners with foundational knowledge and recent research to provide effective and responsive disability-inclusive employment services. 

What Will You Learn?

You will gain practical knowledge on how to:

  • Put the 9 Guiding Principles for supported employment into practice.
  • Use inclusive, ethical, and strengths-based approaches to provide impactful career support.
  • Advocate for disability inclusion and build stronger connections with employers.
  • Create compelling job proposals, support role analysis, and develop fading plans.
  • Work in alignment with federal and provincial/territorial employment legislation and performance management frameworks.

What Else Do You Need To Know?

Program Delivery: The training is completed online on the CASE Learning Portal.

Time Commitment: This 5-week program takes 25 hours to complete in total.

Webinars: Held each Wednesday, from 12 to 1 PM Eastern Time, unless noted otherwise.

Note: It is mandatory for learners to attend the webinar every week to receive their certificate.

Prerequisite: To prepare for the Foundations of Supported Employment program, you will need to complete Guiding Principles for Supported Employment — a short, free online course. You can self-register and complete this course any time before your cohort begins.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

  • If a cancellation request is submitted within 14 days before the scheduled start date of the training, you will receive a full refund. 
     
  • If you cancel with less than 14 days’ notice, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are successful, we will reimburse you for your full registration fees. If we are not able to fill your spot, we will refund you 50% of your fees.  
     
  • We do not offer refunds for cancellations made after the training has started. 

Meet the Instructor: Ashley Hammond

Ashley Hammond (she/her/elle) is the National Trainer at CASE. She facilitates introductory and advanced certificate programs that support professionals in the supported employment sector. She brings extensive knowledge in guiding principles of supported employment, career development, and strengths-based and solution-focused approaches.  

Ashley is passionate about facilitating experiential and collaborative learning experiences. Her teaching styleencouragespeer learning, reflection, and practical application so that everyone can learn with, and from, each other.  She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Memorial University. Her educational background informs her practical, learner-centred approach to training through a strong understanding of organizational strategy, communication, entrepreneurship, marketing, and professional development. 

Ashley brings over 10 years of experience across the non-profit, post-secondary, and supported employment sectors. She entered the supported employment sector as a MentorAbility Regional Coordinator, where she led successful marketing campaigns and professional development workshops to fosterinclusion for persons experiencing disability. 

By combining her background in business, supported employment, entrepreneurship, and facilitation, Ashley supports learners in building confidence, strengthening their career development practice, and applying inclusive approaches in sustainable ways.  

Outside of her professional work, Ashley enjoys film photography and travelling with her family. She’s always looking for a new tv show, podcast, movie, or book recommendation!
