Canadian Association for Supported Employment

Simon: A Little Food for Thought Goes a Long Way. Facilitated by March of Dimes Ontario, ODEN, MentorAbility Ontario. Logos: MentorAbility Canada, the Canadian Association for Supported Employment and the Government of Canada.

Simon’s mentorship at a local food bank gave him the opportunity to practice skills in a supportive environment and gain hands-on work experience.

Social interactions can be challenging for *Simon. He joined March of Dimes Canada’s Paving the Path program to ease his transition into the workforce.

The program provided daily structure and activities and supported Simon’s goal of looking for employment and becoming more independent. The Paving the Path program also offered the opportunity to participate in a MentorAbility mentorship at a local food bank.

Simon gained hands-on experience preparing food boxes. He packed fruits and vegetables, used his math skills to sort items by quantity, and worked with others as part of the food bank’s daily operations.

Although social interactions are challenging at times for Simon, this MentorAbility experience gave him a chance to practice in a supportive environment.    Way to go Simon! It is good to try new things and meet new people in a supportive setting.
