Maxime: Finding a Path in Human Resources. Facilitated by ROSEPH, MentorAbility Quebec. Logos: MentorAbility Canada, the Canadian Association for Supported Employment and the Government of Canada.

Through meetings with mentors and follow-up conversations with the team, Maxime discovered an interest in human resources.

*Maxime came to the MentorAbility team in Quebec with a wealth of experience, though much of it had yet to be recognized here. As a newcomer, he was still learning about the job market, including the differences between the public and private sectors and the roles that might suit his background.

Through meetings with mentors and follow-up conversations with the team, Maxime discovered an interest in human resources. He went on to meet mentors in the field and received support in enrolling in a master’s program in public administration focused on human resources and organizational development.

His mentorships also helped him learn more about equity, diversity and inclusion, the rules of Quebec’s professional order for human resources practitioners, and career opportunities in the field.

Meeting *Charlie, a mentor at Quebec’s Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, gave Maxime valuable insight into a possible career in the public service. Now, he is looking for an internship to complete his studies.

Maxime used this mentorship to prepare his application. He considered what questions to ask, how to answer interview questions, and how to highlight his skills while discussing the accommodations he needs.

Maxime continues to look for an internship with the support of his facilitator who is connecting with workplaces that might welcome him and discussing the accommodations he would need.

From his first questions about Quebec’s job market, Maxime has found a field that interests him and a direction he wants to pursue. We hope he finds an internship where his experience and skills will be fully recognized. Wishing you all the best, Maxime!
