MentorAbility Experience Story: Marie
This experience helped Marie reconnect with the workforce, build confidence, and better understand potential employment pathways within Yellowknife’s hospitality and tourism sector.
When Marie was connected to MentorAbility Canada, she arrived with many years of experience in administrative roles with both local NGOs and the Government of Northwest Territories. After stepping away from the workforce for a brief period, she was ready to rebuild her confidence and explore opportunities to return to work.
MentorAbility was able to match Marie with Marilyn and Aileen, the Executive Housekeeper and Front Office Manager at the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife. Both mentors have over a decade of experience in hospitality and were generous in sharing their industry knowledge and career journeys.
During this MentorAbility Experience, Marie toured the hotel and learned more about key departments such as the front desk, laundry and housekeeping. She gained firsthand insight into the hotel’s daily operations and the important roles various teams play in supporting guests and keeping the hotel running smoothly. Marie also learned about the responsibilities, workplace expectations, and teamwork involved in the hospitality industry.
