Madison is excited to explore the different opportunities Doug suggested and to get started on creating her own pathway to a career in pastry and baking.

Madison is passionate about culinary arts, specifically pastry and baking, and is hoping to pursue additional education in this field. When she was exploring her options, her job coach suggested a MentorAbility mentorship in pastry and baking as a first step. The road to becoming a pastry chef and baker is not cookie-cutter — there are multiple pathways! A mentorship could provide additional information to help Madison narrow down her options.

MentorAbility Manitoba matched Madison with Doug, the co-owner and pastry chef at Chocolate Zen Bakery. Madison, with help from her job coach, was very prepared for this mentorship and had some great questions ready to ask her mentor.

Doug is extremely knowledgeable about his craft, about the sector, and about running a business. He provided lots of good advice and spent time explaining the different steps Madison could take to become a baker. He shared his personal experience as an example, offered education advice, described what a day at work looks like, and much more.

We are so grateful to Doug and Chocolate Zen Bakery for hosting another productive MentorAbility experience.

Madison expressed how helpful it was to meet with Doug and to listen to his own story and all his advice. She’s excited to explore the different opportunities he suggested and to get started on creating her own pathway to a career in pastry and baking. We wish Madison the best of luck!
