Princess was able to explore all aspects of graphic design and printing and to observe real projects in development, providing tangible examples of potential career paths.
Princess has a passion for creativity and graphic arts, and MentorAbility found a natural fit with Jill and Matt at Print Studio One in Steinbach, Manitoba. When she arrived at Print Studio One, Princess was greeted by Jill and Matt, who showed her all the different elements of the graphic design process.
They went over creating brand standards, the computer programs used to design, and the different team members it takes to make each project successful. Jill and Matt also talked about how they themselves got into graphic design and printing careers. By sharing their own career paths, they showed how different routes can lead to fulfilling creative work.
Princess was then taken on a guided tour throughout their facility to get a sense of the workplace environment. They showed her areas for website design, for picking pantone colours for projects, for printing, and for binding, and they pointed out many of their current projects along the way.
The practical and personal guidance provided by mentors Matt and Jill was invaluable. Their passion and dedication to their craft was evident as they helped Princess learn about the business of graphic design and printing.
Princess felt very happy after the experience and went home with a lot of concrete information about where she can go with a graphic design career. She was able to explore all aspects of graphic design and printing and to observe real projects in development, providing tangible examples of potential career paths.
We thank Matt and Jill for their hospitality and for sharing their knowledge and personal career story during this MentorAbility experience. We are so excited about where Princess will go in the future.
