*Rob had been working part-time at a popular local fast-food restaurant, covering one shift per week for the past two years.\u00a0Wanting to expand his employment options, he sought out March of Dimes Canada (MODC) who encouraged him to enroll in a food production program.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Since he already had a keen\u00a0interest in cooking,\u00a0Since he already had a keen interest in cooking\u00a0and had already hoped to become a baker one day,\u00a0MODC believed that with\u00a0additional\u00a0skills and hands-on experience, Rob could build on his current role and potentially take on more responsibilities at work\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Having graduated high school only a few years\u00a0ago,\u00a0Rob\u00a0was\u00a0relatively new\u00a0to the workforce and looking to gain practical experience.,\u00a0so a food production program was the perfect fit for him. MODC connected Rob with us here at MentorAbility and we paired him with a master brewer named Craig at a local brewery.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Although initially shy, Rob gradually gained confidence\u00a0and learned how to do things by\u00a0observing\u00a0Craig perform tasks and then asking questions afterward. As he got more comfortable during his\u00a0MentorAbility\u00a0Experience, Rob was able to stir ingredients, inspect beer tanks, check temperatures during the brewing process, learn how dry ingredients are stored and learn about different grains like barley and hops.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Although brewing and baking are different, this mentorship gave Rob hands-on exposure to food production processes, ingredient handling, storage, and working with grains, all of which connect well with his long-term interest in baking.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This engaging and supportive mentorship not only helped Rob develop new skills,\u00a0it\u00a0also contributed to him securing more hours\u00a0at his current job.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Congratulations Rob! He now aspires to become a\u00a0baker\u00a0one day, and he is still actively seeking other employment opportunities to further develop his skills and experience so he can make his baking dreams come true.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
