Ryan knew he was in the right place as he watched the Access Communications team prepare for the live broadcast of that evening\u2019s Regina Pats game. \u201cI\u2019m liking what I\u2019m hearing,\u201d he said to Spencer, an Access producer, as they talked about all the aspects of the production.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Back in elementary school, Ryan became interested in audio-visual (A\/V) when he helped to set up equipment for presentations and assemblies. He went on to do sound and lighting for high school drama productions, followed by post-secondary courses in audio engineering and lighting. He also worked as a DJ and still did music production. Now, he was ready to take all that experience and turn it into a career.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

During his mentorship with Access, Ryan was excited to <\/span>spend the evening <\/span>in the production truck learning about A\/V work for a live sports broadcast. He discovered it was very different than working in a studio.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cIn a recording studio, you get as much time as you need to get the sound you’re looking for. But when it comes to live TV, everything is on the fly,\u201d he said, noting that everyone was willing to take the time to show him different aspects of what they do. \u201cIt was fascinating to see all the different roles in action, all coming together on the fly in the Access truck.\u201d<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Spencer said it was great to see Ryan arrive with so many questions for him and the Access team. Ryan is hoping he can shadow or volunteer at Access productions in the future, either live or in their studio.<\/span>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
