Our inclusive design focus reinforces to our people that we are proud of our differences, and we want people to share their stories when they are ready.\u00a0<\/p><p>Nobody implements inclusion alone, and there are many components to it. Multiple stakeholders at EY from all our teams deliver those components every day. At EY, we have been intentionally hiring neurodivergent thinkers for a decade and had attracted neurodivergent professionals many decades prior.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, for organizations today, there is more data and more learnings. The path and the best practices have already been laid by early adopters like EY.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Learn as much as you can from other organizations that are already practising inclusion. We are all a \u201cwork in progress,\u201d EY included, and can share lessons learned.&nbsp;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-b37ade5 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"b37ade5\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-a74c70e\" data-id=\"a74c70e\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f8f869d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f8f869d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Can you share practical tips about building a welcoming and safe space for job candidates and new hires who may be neurodivergent?<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d2bab31 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d2bab31\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n \t<li><b>Organize training around inclusion an<\/b><strong>d neurodiversity for existing employees and managers.<\/strong> Be open to having conversations and asking questions.<\/li><p><\/p>\n \t<li><b>Survey your hiring and interview processes. <\/b>At EY, we do very technical work in tax, audit, strategy, and consulting, and we knew that we already had many neurodivergent professionals across all ranks. We also knew that some people were struggling with the traditional hiring process. So, we deconstructed our interview process and created a methodology that was more inclusive and accessible for everyone.<\/li><p><\/p>\n \t<li><b>Assess your existing platforms and processes. <\/b>What tools and level of support do you currently offer job candidates and new hires who may be neurodivergent? Hiring is a two-way street, and candidates are evaluating the supports an employer will offer.<\/li><p><\/p>\n \t<li><b>Create a safe space for people to share their experiences. <\/b>Listen to the voices of existing employees. Did they have the tools and the support they needed during the interview process and to be successful when they started? What worked well? What were the barriers?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-6d6a0f9 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"6d6a0f9\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-0958216\" data-id=\"0958216\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0f3880d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0f3880d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">What strategies can be used to continue to support neurodivergent employees throughout their career with an organization? <\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-badf0ae elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"badf0ae\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-50 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-cf7c5fd\" data-id=\"cf7c5fd\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a0a4d54 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a0a4d54\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li><b>Develop a plan to set up an ecosystem of inclusion<\/b> that includes your existing support systems and that addresses the gaps at every step of the employment process and throughout your organization.<\/li><p><\/p>\n<li><b>From hire to retire and everything in between, make sure there&#8217;s a career trajectory for each employee<\/b>, their goals, and unique profile. What type of supports and mentorship will they need to succeed?<\/li><p><\/p>\n<li><b>Again, listen to the voice of your employees. <\/b>What supports do they need to grow professionally and to move forward?<\/li><p><\/p>\n<li><b>Mentorship is free and is a valuable tool. <\/b>For mentors, it adds meaning and an opportunity to develop their own leadership and allyship skills. For persons experiencing disability who are navigating the culture of a new job or organization and the many unspoken \u201crules\u201d within any organization, having a mentor can significantly enhance the employee experience. Mentors can help support self-advocacy in the workplace. For some neurodivergent professionals, finding natural mentors in the workplace can be a challenge.
