That means 20 per cent of the people around us might have trouble hearing during a phone call or virtual meeting.<\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">Hearing access is a basic right. In Canada, employers must provide accommodations to persons who require them, up to the point of undue hardship. Accommodations can include improving hearing access during virtual interviews and work meetings.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">When virtual meetings are accessible, people know that their engagement is valued. They are encouraged to participate, know that their contributions are respected, and encounter less stress and mental fatigue.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-size: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-size ); font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">While many companies have embraced virtual work, we are still learning how to make these new workspaces inclusive.
